Mission Statement

It is the mission of People First of California, Inc. to help start, inform and support local chapters so that we, and all people with developmental disabilities are able to speak for ourselves, know our rights and responsibilities, and are respected, valued members of our communities. Description

The mission of People First of California, Inc. (PFCA) is to serve all people with developmental challenges throughout California, primarily through People First members and chapters. PFCA serves as a role model for people with developmental disabilities in personal empowerment, leadership, and advocacy.

PFCA is also a resource to professionals in the developmental disabilities service system and provides the general community with education on subjects useful and beneficial to people with developmental disabilities. PFCA helps develop and support local chapters and regional branches by creating and distributing information, conducting and sponsoring trainings, and serving as a resource on both organization development and self-advocacy information and practices.

The mission of PFCA is accomplished by a Board of Directors of People First members, other volunteers, and professional staff. The Board is supported by a Professional Advisory Council comprised of experts in organization management, by the developmental disabilities service field, and by trained facilitators who assist individual Board Members, when needed, to understand and carry out their duties.
